The Benefits and Rewards of the Night of Power (Laylat-ul-Qadr)

May 20, 2020 0

Benefits and RewardsWhat is meant by Lailatul Qadr?

Laylat al-Qadr, also known as Shab-e-Qadr, Night of Decree, Night of Measures, is an Islamic observance that marks the anniversary of the night Mohammad received the first verses of the Koran (Qu'ran). Many Muslims devote their time to reading the Koran during this period.

What is the most important night of Ramadan and why?

Shia Muslims similarly believe that Laylat al-Qadr is to be found in the last ten odd nights of Ramadan but mostly on the 19th, 21st or 23rd of Ramadan with 23rd being the most important night.

How is the Night of Power celebrated?

Signs of Lailat al Qadr

This is a time that Muslims spend in study and prayer. Some will spend the whole night in prayer or in reciting the Qur'an. Because of this, many Muslims will treat the last 10 days of the month of Ramadan as a particularly good time for prayer and reading the Qur'an.

Why is the 27th night of Ramadan so important?

Laylat al Qadr commemorates the night in 610 CE when Allah revealed the Koran (Islamic holy book) to the prophet Muhammad. The common belief that this day occurred on the 26th or 27th day of Ramadan has no Islamic base. It seems to have originated in Manichaeism where the death of Mani is celebrated on the 27th day of the fasting month. This day is also known as the Night of Power or the Night of Destiny. There is a difference of opinion about the date for Laylat al-Qadr but, in general, it is agreed that it is most likely to be in the last 10 nights of Ramadan, with the odd nights being more likely. Of the odd nights, the night of the 27th (which is the night before the 27th of Ramadan, as the Islamic day starts with nightfall) is most likely, according to many Muslim scholars.

What should we do on the night of Laylatul Qadr?

1. Take a break for Allah.

2. Do Itikaf.

3. Make this special Dua.

4. Recite the Quran.

5. Get your sins to be cleansed.

6. Come up with a personal Dua.

7. Have Iftar with the family.Night of Power or Night of Destiny

Why is the Night of Power so important?

Lailat al Qadr, the Night of Power, marks the night in which the Qur'an was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad by Allah. Muslims regard this as the most important event in history and the Qur'an says that this the night is better than a thousand months (97:3) and that on this night the angels descend to earth. This is a time that Muslims spend in study and prayer. Some will spend the whole night in prayer or in reciting the Qur'an.

Lailat al Qadr is a good time to ask for forgiveness.

“Whoever establishes the prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards (not to show off) then all his past sins will be forgiven”.

Hadith, Bukhari Vol 1, Book 2:34

Lailat al Qadr takes place during Ramadan. The date of 27 Ramadan for this day is a traditional date, as the Prophet Muhammad did not mention when the Night of Power would be, although it was suggested it was in the last 10 days of the Ramadan month.

Because of this, many Muslims will treat the last 10 days of the month of Ramadan as a particularly good time for prayer and reading the Qur'an.
